Ilayaraja Treasure Hunt – Poo Potta Dhavani

I am a music listener. I don’t have much understanding of technicalities of music. For me, the composition has to connect, stir something inside, call it feeling, emotion or just pure joy. Poo Potta Dhavani Song from the movie Kakki Chattai – falls under club dance that was typical of 80s and 90s movies. Not sure whether this can be bucketed as item number in today’s parlance – since the

Shankar Ganesh Treasure Hunt – Kanni Paruvathile

News of actor Rajesh’s sad demise took me down the memory lane. Reminiscing about his movies – Achamillai Achamillai, Kanni Paruvathile, Antha 7 natkal, Sathya, Veli, Mahanadhi – movies where I can recollect his character. One thing led to another, and I landed on Kanni Paruvathile. I don’t recollect the story much, but the songs are still fresh in my memory. It was a successful album when the movie came

Tourist Family – An ode to humanity

Official Trailer: Tourist family reminded me of another movie Ayodhi. There are many similarities between the two. Sasikumar the easy one. Rameshwaram another. Basic movie making gets elevated by strong message of humanity without thrusting the message in your face. Be human, that is all there to make our life lively. Where they differ is Tourist Family lightens the mood with good dose of comedy. Full credit to Abishan Jeevinth’s

Bus Trains and Mobiles

There is a big difference between bus and train journeys now and a decade plus ago. It is the mobile phones (just mobile moving forward). No let me correct that….it is the people with mobiles. A decade ago, the big nuisance would be people talking loudly or worst-case loud snoring if the passenger next to you happen to sleep. I don’t include the crying of babies since these journeys are

The Residence – A lovely and captivating whodunnit

Official Trailer: On paper the writing sounds funny and interesting. But it is whole another challenge to stage it visually on the screen. Things fall flat on screen. The Residence is a masterclass on how to stage and narrate the story. Director, Writer and Editor have paid close attention to details on the dialogue, visuals, when and where to cut. The outcome is visually striking – the quick cuts add

Ilayaraja Treasure Hunt – Nitham Nitham Nellu Soru

Focus of the series is to dig up not so often heard gems of IR compositions. Based on time I may start treasure hunt on other composers also (yes, this is a threat 😀). Disclaimer: I am a music listener. I don’t have much understanding of technicalities of music. For me, the composition has to connect, stir something inside, call it feeling or emotion or just pure joy. Nitham Nitham

Adolescence – A heartbreaking series and A Masterclass in writing, acting, cinematography and right messaging

Official Trailer: I did not have a clue what Adolescence series is about except that my friend pointed me to it without his take on it. As we go through the opening sequence, we sense something is odd. As the episode progressed it felt like I am in a hypnotic spell. Not able to take the eyes away from the screen. I want to catch every detail. I started breathing
