Official Trailer:

The Family Man – Everyone wants the Truth to be on their side…but no one wants to standby the Truth

Good thing about The Family Man Season 2 is that it keeps the momentum like season 1. With its characters and plot twists it keeps you hooked. A big thumbs up to the writers. Another big thumbs up to casting team, casting of The Family Man is perfect. Like season 1, here also the team has gone with regional actors which gives an authentic feel. Samantha pitches the rebel character, Raji, flawlessly. Not just the actors, but I think they have collaborated with local writers to get the dialect right. Feels so natural and fresh. This is a rarity even in Tamil movies – not everyone does the required detailing. Sample this: Avan oru echcha naiyi. Or this: Un iyakkam, mayakkam, mayiru, mattai ellam unnoda vachukko. This detailing gives additional dimension to the characters – makes them more humane. Umayal’s preferred drinks, or the subtle relationship dynamics between JK and Umayal or how JK pronounces UmayaL correctly. Action pieces in Vedaranyam (any reason why it is referred to as Veeraranyam in the series?) and Point Pedro are nail biting and stand out, especially the police station attack. Compared to them, final action sequence at Kicha Farms is a letdown, didn’t live up to the build-up. While it is understandable the balancing act the writers must keep in mind (what with all special interest groups pressures and ban demand), would have loved to see more screen space for back stories of Raji, Selva, Deepan, and Kalyan. By juxtaposing the tactics deployed by either side, Family Man fuzzes the line between the good and bad guys. Makes us revisit our opinions. In the name of national security, is it OK to let a family live with wrong belief that their son was a terrorist? While the informers do play a key role in this cat and mouse game, isn’t it a tad unrealistic to see Chellam and the informer in London to be 100% accurate every time? They seem to be moving the plot ahead 😄

  1. Overall I liked the first season better.

Would have preferred no Pakistan, Kashmir, Love Jihad angle.

I think Chellam character was quite a nice touch. Would have liked to have seen the lady police officer also have some more screen time after her hospitalisation.

    1. Agree with you on Umayal (the lady police officer). It came as a pleasant surprise in this series. More screen space for that character would have been good. I think writers kept the Pakistan angle to do the balancing act with Tamil rebels and TN – of course I am guessing here – only the writers can clarify. Expanding Kalyan character would have helped not reading that relationship as Love Jihad. As it stands now, it does come out as Love Jihad.
Informers like Chellam do play an important role in real world – what I couldn’t buy in to was the 100% accuracy. Maybe his character has to be read as representing multiple informers network!! Luckily season 2 didn’t end in a cliffhanger like season 1.

  2. started watching after your message though I didnt read your write up. No lags in the series. Both Murli and I watched. Very nice and interesting series. Shooting scene was too good.
